San Diego Engagement Session || A great story...Part 1 of 3

Chelsea & Ian

A good story always wins, I mean, Bran got six kingdoms for a good story, (any fellow GOT fans?), and Hugh Grant gave Julia Roberts the last brownie for the most pathetic story, (if you can name that movie you are totally my people). Now this story is definitely a, “wins the last brownie,“ kind of story. A “courage under fire, these two are my favorite because, wow” kind of story.  You’re going to have to be a bit patient for why their story is so good, but first, let me introduce you:

These are their engagement photos, perfectly, classically them. They grew up in Florida so they dress just a little bit more preppy than your average laid-back San Diegan, to their credit honestly. He’s into cooking and cigars and every once in a while when the light is just right he could do pretty good stand in for Jason Momoa, which I’m sure no one is complaining about, least of all his bride. She’s a vegetarian who loves yoga and works for a construction company. That last bit makes me laugh, I love how eclectic we humans are.

They are both obsessed with hiking and the outdoors and craft beer and puppies, specifically Walter, their baby that they’ve had since he was eight weeks old. So much so that when looking around for a gift to surprise them with I ended up going with a hand sketched art piece of Walter done by Sheila Chen. It’s amazing what that girl does with a pencil and some watercolors- and she used to be a local San Diegan, (recently moved to Hawaii for the military- super fair).

Somewhere in between the fact that he was nervous about photos and they both love beer that’s where we decided to begin, (and end), their engagement session. My goal is ALWAYS to make photos sessions fun. It should be like hanging out with a friend, laughing, talking, joking, in this case- grabbing a beer- or four. Four beers, one puppy, one puppy handling friend, five locations, two hours, and a lot of laughter later, we had this beautiful story of the two of them together.

Literally just a patch of weeds by the side of the road- they made it magic…

And they’ve been together, pretty much forever is not an understatement. My favorite part of this engagement session was torn between two things, how crazy they were about each other and how ready for adventure they were. We went up and down steep hills in fancy shoes, tried out a new open space park, and when I suggested that they frolic in what was literally just a patch of weeds on the side of the road, they cracked up and pulled over, no questions asked.

Cheers to adventure and making things fun, cheers to old loves and new friendships, and a wedding around the corner!

Next week I’ll be sharing a quick little break out elopement wedding on sunset cliffs but in TWO weeks these two’s wedding will be up on the blog and that’s where this story becomes a STORY- you haven’t seen anything yet- and this is just part one of three.
